The Studio Public House, a popular British restaurant in the Grand Central District, is being forced to close this summer.

A popular St. Petersburg Independence Day tradition is set to make its return.  
The 5th annual Orlando Health St. Pete Pier Run will take place Friday, July 4. Attendees will be able to participate in a timed 4-mile run starting from Spa Beach Park on the St. Pete Pier. The course will go along the waterfront and end back on The Pier.

Despite funding loss, overdose nonprofit remains optimistic

Florida Harm Reduction Collective (FHRC), a St. Petersburg-based nonprofit, has been providing free Naloxone kits through mail distribution to individuals around Florida since 2022. 
Naloxone (also known under the brand name Narcan), typically a nasal spray, is a medicine used to reverse opioid overdoses.

Clearwater complex to offer affordable housing again 

Sunrise Affordable Housing Group has acquired the Indigo, a Clearwater apartment complex, for $25.5 million. Under the new ownership, it will return to affordable housing.  
Once known as Prospect Towers, the circa 1971 complex at 801 Chestnut Street offered affordable housing for senior citizens for half a century.

That’s some boat ride: 5,500 miles for charity

Darren Hayes left Tuesday on a 5,500 mile, solo water journey. He set sail on a 22-foot pontoon boat from Tierra Verde Marine Resort in St. Petersburg. 
Hayes, 41, is raising money and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay. The nonprofit serves families of ill children by providing them with a free place to stay during their child’s course of treatment. It also provides food and other resources.

City council approves sewer resilience projects 

At its June 5 meeting, the St. Petersburg City Council approved multiple sewer system resilience projects, to ensure their resiliency before, during and after a natural disaster.
They include major renovations at Lift Station 85, the biggest lift station run by the City. 
The station is on the Old Albert Whitted Water Reclamation Facility property, which was decommissioned in 2015. Sewage flows from Lift Station 85 are now directed to the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility.

In a public virtual hearing Tuesday, the City of St. Petersburg discussed its draft action plan for Sunrise St. Pete, a disaster recovery initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). 
$159.8 million in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery funds from HUD have been allocated to the City.

Developer Bonugli invests in another site on Central

St. Petersburg real estate investor Rossi Bonugli is working on a new retail development on Central Avenue. He’s hoping the investment helps give the area new life. 
According to a city permit, a 6,079 sq. ft. building is planned. It will have five units and approximately nine parking spots, Bonugli told the Catalyst. Each unit will be roughly 1,300 sq. ft.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is building a new marine mammal complex at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. According to Jonathan Veach, FWC Information Specialist, the facility will feature two adjacent buildings: A pathobiology lab for manatee and dolphin necropsies and an administrative center.

Hurricane season is not something to take lightly. Just last year, with Hurricanes Helene and Milton, approximately 41,000 homes were affected in Pinellas County alone.
